Nose Procedures Rochester Hills, MI
“If you’ve put the perfect nose on the wrong person, you’ve made a mistake. You’re not giving the patient what’s best for them.” – Dr. Joseph Mark
Nose surgery, otherwise known as a rhinoplasty or nose job, has helped Michigan patients of board-certified plastic surgeon Joseph Mark achieve their ideal results for over 30 years. Though most people think of visual enhancements when they hear the term “nose job,” the reality is, this surgical procedure can have functional benefits as well. Surgery of the nose improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self-confidence. It may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities in the nose (also known as Septoplasty). Rhinoplasty is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures.
Finding the Right Surgeon for Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a delicate surgical procedure that requires years of experience to perfect. Many surgeons will tell you that of all the procedures, this is the most intricate and difficult one to perfect. Joseph E. Mark, MD takes pride in his expertise in this particular procedure and understands that the foundation for the best results start by listening to his patients.

Generally, there are two techniques to approach a rhinoplasty, open and closed.
With closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are located inside the nostrils so that no part of the incision is visible on the outside of the nose. Though this technique can be more favorable in terms of the scar placement, it also makes the surgery more challenging, and at times, limiting. In many cases, closed nose surgery can also help reduce swelling during the recovery process.
An open nose surgery allows for comparatively more access to the full nasal structure to assess the various elements for correction. This technique can be more liberating for the surgeon to perform more involved corrections and reshaping.
The nose surgery procedure can take anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on a number of factors from the scope of the job to the patient’s preference. Before surgery can be performed, anesthesia is administered for the patient’s comfort. Depending on the goals of the rhinoplasty being done, the process and approach will vary. For example, the steps of shaving down a dorsal hump are not the same as correcting a deviated septum. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning that there is no need for an overnight stay in the hospital.
